Me-Made-May at Fiber Snob: Join the Celebration All Month Long
Share
May is here, and we are so excited to be joining crafters around the world in celebrating Me-Made-May — a beloved annual tradition that is really at the heart of why we do what we do at Fiber Snob.
Fiber Snob's Me-Made-May 2026
Whether you're a seasoned sewist or just beginning your sewing journey, we want this month to be about celebrating what you create. We've put together a month of weekly Instagram prompts designed to inspire your makes and connect our growing community — and yes, there are prizes involved.
Everyone who uses the hashtag #fibersnobMMM2026 on Instagram during May will be automatically entered to win one of three $50 Fiber Snob gift cards. Not on Instagram? No problem — simply email us your makes and we'll feature them in a special newsletter round-up at the end of the month.
Here's what to expect each week:
Week 1 — Material Matters We're kicking things off by celebrating our favorite part of any garment: the fabric. You'll learn more about the Fiber Snob story and why we are so passionate about natural fiber textiles.
Week 2 — The Design Behind This week we'll highlight our favorite indie pattern designers and the patterns we carry in-store. And did you know we print A0 size patterns? No more taping pages together!
Week 3 — Finishing Details From needles to scissors to interfacings, we'll share shop favorites that help you achieve a truly professional finish.
Week 4 — The Complete Look The final week is all about the finished object. Show us your makes — how you style them, how they fit, and what you love about them.
Follow along on Instagram at @fibersnob.sr, use #fibersnobMMM2026 on your posts, and let's celebrate what we make together.
The Story Behind Me-Made-May
Me-Made-May was created by Zoe, a UK-based sewing enthusiast and blogger who has been documenting her handmaking journey since 2008 at her blog So, Zo... What Do You Know? The whole thing started in 2010, when Zoe was living in Barcelona, Spain, getting more and more into making her own clothing and thinking deeply about the meaning behind building a handmade wardrobe.
She first attempted the challenge solo in March of that year — fun and informative, but mostly cold. She wanted to try again during a warmer month, settled on May, and mentioned it on her blog to see if anyone else was interested. She expected only a handful of takers. Over 80 people signed up that first year, and it's grown to many thousands of participants annually ever since.
Beyond the challenge itself, Zoe has become a leading voice in the slow fashion and sustainable sewing world. She wrote a book called Mend It, Wear It, Love It (published 2021) about caring for, mending, and altering your clothes to give them longer lives, and hosts the weekly podcast Check Your Thread, which explores ways to sew more sustainably. You can follow her on Instagram at @sozoblog.
What Is the Challenge, Exactly?
Me-Made-May is a wardrobe challenge designed to help you improve your relationship with your handmade items — and it can also teach you what to make (and not make) in the future. The idea is simply to wear your handmade pieces more often, or in ways you normally wouldn't.
A few things worth knowing:
It's not a making challenge. The focus is on wearing what you've already created, not on accumulating more. Giving yourself a month to focus on what you've got helps you appreciate those pieces, perhaps fall back in love with some, and get more from the time, energy, and resources you've already invested in your craft.
It's also not a photo challenge. The outfits that appear on social media are documentation of the challenge, not the challenge itself — and photos are entirely optional.
And perhaps most importantly: you can participate even if you have just one single handmade item. It's about working with what you've got, setting a suitable pledge, learning useful lessons, and having fun.
We cannot wait to see what this community creates. Happy Me-Made-May!
